Story Hooks

  • The case for a bias-free world: if we can imagine colonizing Mars, we can imagine living on Earth without bias.

  • Biases are learned and can be unlearned using the PRISM Toolkit: Perspective-taking, pRosocial behaviors, Individuation, Stereotype replacement, and Mindfulness.

  • Bias is the building block of most challenges — AI, policing, representation in Hollywood, product design, and bullying. Bias hinders the success of policy solutions.

  • How checking “other” on the race question led me to discover how race became a global system of human ranking in less than 500 years.

  • How losing to a girl in arm-wrestling led me to question the gender hierarchy and uncover the development of the gender hierarchy globally.

  • Teaching about antisemitism was my entry into breaking bias and combating antisemitism, racism, sexism, and all other -isms and -phobias.

  • The case for channeling capitalism to breaking bias: racial bias alone costs the US $2 trillion annually. Imagine the wasted time, resources, and human potential globally.

  • Unpacking the five causes of bias and the five solutions to bias to transform polarization in your family, community, workplace, and even inside your head.

  • How understanding the four forms of bias can help make better decisions in court rooms, board rooms, voting booths, and beyond.

  • As the election looms, the PRISM tools can help mitigate political polarization and encourage conversations between not around.

Who is Anu, anyway?

Hi! I’m Anu, and I wrote my best-selling book, Breaking Bias, as the culmination of my life’s work building a Beloved Community.

Breaking Bias is one of the few books that go beyond examining the history of bias to offer actual training in how to reduce bias, and it’s the only one written by an author with my unique intersectional identities: a gay brown immigrant with Buddhist, Christian, and Hindu roots who is also an American lawyer and scholar of bias with lived experiences that span the globe.
